The Massage Room

A natural approach to better health

To all my clients,

I thank you for your patience and understanding over the last 2 months. I hope you are all doing well considering the uncertain times we have and continue to live today. As many of you may already be aware,  the Ontario Government and the Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health have provided a new directive for Regulated Health Professionals that allow for a gradual restart of services to be carried out with adherence to guidance from each health profession’s regulatory college.

Registered Massage Therapists do fall under this directive. Although we have been given permission to gradually re-open and provide our services, the CMTO ( College of Massage Therapists of Ontario) has emphasized that we should not return to practice if we cannot meet all the requirements or if we feel it is not safe to do so.

The CMTO also encourages limiting the number of in-person visits by prioritizing clients with essential care needs. Treatment is considered essential when: the client’s overall health or function would considerably decline if treatment were not provided (i.e. lead to hospitalization or other serious health consequences). The safety of everyone involved is our number one concern and we need to make sure that the benefits outweigh the risks.

With that being said, it is important that we take the time to educate our clients in regards to some of the requirements listed in the guidelines. Practice Guidance for Massage Therapists has been prepared based on Ministry of Health and Public Health Ontario information and resources. Some of these guidelines include: hand hygiene, cleaning and disinfecting, preparing our practice, steps to follow before, during and after each appointment and PPE (personal protective equipment) to name a few.

A separate email will be sent with these guidelines, so we can all prepare ourselves for the "new normal" we have to get accustomed to.

With the long list of guidelines, changes that need to be made, cleaning supplies and PPE we need to order, altering our spaces to meet the criteria, preparing the proper signage and printing out extra forms that will need to be filled, completing additional health and safety training and so on, please understand that most of us will need time to be fully ready to re-open. My number one concern is the safety of myself, my family and my clients. With that in mind, I will update my clients as soon as i can see a potential date to safely re-open my clinic. I thank you all for your continued patience and understanding.

For those who are in pain and need advice, home care or guidance, do not hesitate to call or email me and i will do my best to help you! I am here for you!

Please stay safe and i hope to see you soon!
